Mackeral Dip

My husband, our 3 year old and I had dinner for the first time last night at Topsoil. Everything was incredible! We started with the Octopus Ceviche and Smoked Mackerel dip. Both outstanding. Definitely order the homemade sourdough to go with the Mackerel dip! I had the Osso Bucco Pappardelle and my husband had the Flatiron steak. We shared the Cauliflower and Collard Green Gratin as well. Their dishes are all so spot on with all of the flavors and presentation is beautiful too. Our 3 year old agreed as he ordered and enjoyed the kids pasta with butter and cheese as well as an order of donuts with passion fruit sauce. We sat on their screened in patio overlooking the Swamp Rabbit Trail and it was a perfect evening out. Can't wait to enjoy our leftovers! We'll be back :)

Market Seafood Plate

We had not been out to dinner in a long time. We had an outdoor table which was perfect. The service was fabulous. The food was absolutely delicious. I cannot eat dairy or gluten and the chef changed the dishes so I could still enjoy an incredible meal. Everything was fresh and farm to table just as advertised. They give you time between courses so you never feel rushed and can really take in the experience. Can't wait to go back and try more dishes!

Brussels, Crispy Eggplant and Shitake Mushrooms (VA) (N)

When Debi, our wedding coordinator, told us about Topsoil for our reception we agreed without too much research. The trust has paid off! The food was amazing, the atmosphere was wonderful, everything was great! Let me expand: Atmosphere: The cocktail hour was at the downstairs garden. It was intimate and sweet. The dinner itself was at a patio. Even though it was not screened they did a great job with pest and temperature control. Music is always playing without me having to think about it. Food: This is the amazing part! The dinner is served family style. I have the menu attached. The only request I made was "Asian elements & creme brulee for dessert". The delivered that and more! My favorite was the Brussels and the scallops. The scallops was a huge topic since a few of our guests don't care for them in other contexts but loved these. They were seared perfectly with a light citrusy sauce. I don't think I have seen yuzu in an American menu. What a nice surprise! How did they know my favorite citrus ;) Also really enjoyed the huge amount of vegetables. Wedding dinner can be delicious and good for you. Another highlight is dessert. Creme Brulee has been an important part of my life. I had a lot of them from many places and this one is one of the best. The right amount of sweetness and the chai spice is balanced and delicate. The coffee with it was wonderful as well. Bottom Line: Everything was done with sincerity and creativity. Incredible! Thank you Wendy, Adam, Debi and the service team. I will update pictures once I get them.
